Literary Agents, Anxiety, and Smoothing Out Transitions to School
Fall Programs for Writers, Families, and Communities
For a writer, editor, and school and family counselor, the fall is busy, busy. Below you’ll find three programs I’m super excited to be facilitating. They begin next week. [Space is limited for my virtual agent/editor query program so register soon.]
You’ve Written a Book, Now What: Create an Agent | Editor Submission Package that Wows!
[NOTE: As of 9/10, I’ve got a few more spaces in this virtual six week program that starts next Tuesday.]
Many say it’s more challenging than ever to secure agent representation or find a publisher willing to acquire your work. While that may be true, it’s also a fact that there is so much you can do to be sure your query submission package captures the attention of industry professionals.
You’ve spent a lot of time perfecting your writing. Now you'll want to be knowledgeable and strategic about finding the right home for your work. I hope you'll let me help.
At the end of the six week program, you'll have:
1) a clear sense of where your book fits in the current publishing landscape
2) a perfected one-liner describing your book
3) individualized feedback on your query letter
4) two comparable titles specific to your book that will pique agent/editor interest
5) a completed agent/editor outreach template to begin querying strategically when you’re ready
6) individualized attention and peer support
7) and a free e-book with all course materials.
DATES:
Tuesdays September 17 through October 15 from 7:00 pm-9:30 pm ET | Virtual | with a bonus session in November to address the inevitable questions you’ll have once you begin the query process.
FEE:
Registration is $550

The Anxiety Generation: A Community Conversation to Chart a Path Forward
On Wednesday September 18, I’ll be moderating a conversation with students, parents, teachers, and community leaders about the great rewiring of childhood.
Hosted by Buttonwood Books & Toys, you’ll learn how screens are changing development and why it’s not to late to reclaim a play-filled experience for all of us. [Jonathan Haidt’s book will be available through Buttonwood]

School Days: Smoothing out the Fall Transition
[Hosted by Montessori Schools of Massachusetts, this two part workshop starts Thursday September 19.]
Heading back to school after a long break—or attending a program for the first time—comes with lots of changes to the rhythms of daily life for young children. Yet it’s much easier for them to make the transition if their parents and teachers build a child-friendly lifestyle aimed at their development, temperament, and skills.
Join Lynne Reeves Griffin for a workshop filled with practical strategies for guiding age-appropriate learning, keeping children calm and focused, while also strengthening the parent-teacher connection.
